The Ultimate November Break Guide!

The leaves are falling, the air is getting colder, stores have put up their Christmas displays: it's almost November Break!

That special week long break, which only those at TFS get off, is the best time to go on a quick trip with school or family, do some important studying and relax. This short break can easily be wasted, so read on to discover your guide to the best November break ever!

So what should you do if you want to travel, but your family hasn’t made any plans? Have no fear, there are many great day trip destinations in and around the GTA. If you're looking to enjoy beautiful fall colours and natural wonders, then consider a trip to Rouge National Urban Park. Located near the Toronto Zoo, north of Sheppard Ave East, and accessible via public transit, it is the perfect urban oasis, complete with beaches, marshes, streams and forests. Various guided walking tours are available throughout the day, and entrance is free! For a different outdoor adventure, head to Milton and its spectacular Rattlesnake Point conservation area. Well known for rock climbing, bird watching and amazing views of the cities around, this park offers a wide variety of exciting activities. Amongst them is geocaching, which is a similar to a scavenger hunt, but with a GPS used to locate “caches” where trinkets are hidden. Pack a lunch or get something on the way, and get exploring!

There are many indoor activities around town as well. A great way to spend a rainy afternoon is at a board game café, such as For The Win, north of Yonge and Lawrence, which serves bubble tea, snacks and other beverages (the Nutella hot chocolate is highly recommended) and has a huge variety of board games.

To keep your brain in shape over the break, head to an escape room! In a race against time, you and your friends must solve puzzles using your senses, knowledge and problem solving skills in order to escape a series of rooms. Escape The Danforth is a fun family-friendly room, but be warned: family- friendly does not mean simple! If you're looking for something a bit more intense, try Escape Games near the Downsview subway station.

Throughout the week, there is a variety of events throughout the city, including the Royal Winter Fair. Lasting from November 3rd to 12th at the Exhibition Place, this event includes a horse show, produce and livestock contests, cooking demonstrations, a market, the famous PC SuperDogs show and so much more! Equally exciting, from the 10th to the 13th, is the Hockey Hall of Fame inductions for hockey’s finest will be in town. The festivities will include a inductee Q&A and the Legends classic hockey game, featuring star players. To end the week on a more serious note, attend one of the many ceremonies happening across the city at venues including Old City Hall, Fort York and many local cenotaphs and metro centres. Enjoy your break, TFS!
